Golam Mohi, PhD
Keynote Speaker
Professor, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics
University of Virginia School of Medicine
Dr. Mohi received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Dhaka. He joined as a lecturer in the same department in 1995. Dr. Mohi obtained his PhD degree from the University of Tokyo in 2001. Then he moved to Harvard Medical School as a postdoctoral fellow. He joined as an Assistant Professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2006 and later promoted to the rank of Professor (with tenure) in the same institution. In 2017, Dr. Mohi moved to the University of Virginia where he is currently serving as a Professor in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. His laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms involved in the regulation of normal hematopoiesis and hematologic malignancies. The goal of his research is to identify new therapeutic targets and develop novel therapeutic strategies for treatment of leukemia. One of the major interests in his lab is to study the role of the JAK/STAT signaling in the pathogenesis of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). He is also investigating the interaction of epigenetic modulators with the JAK2 mutation in MPNs using state-of-the-art techniques and genetically engineered animal models.
